Appreciation post: the old timer at the lumber yard who told me my deck ledger was wrong
I was building a small back deck on my house off Bell Street and had the ledger bolted straight through the siding with no flashing, and a guy at the counter asked what I was using to keep water out and I had no answer. He told me plain that water would get behind it and rot the rim joist within a couple seasons, so I pulled it off and redid it with a spacer and proper flashing. Anyone else get set straight by somebody at the yard who had been doing this since before I was born?
