Bought a $20 moisture meter from Lowe's and it saved my kitchen reno
Last month I was fixing a leak under the sink in my 1950s house over on Georgia St. Thought I dried everything up but decided to grab one of those pinless moisture meters on a whim. Good thing I did. Found a wet spot behind the cabinet that was starting to grow mold. Caught it early before it spread to the subfloor. Anyone else use one of these before painting or tiling?

oh man I feel this. I read somewhere online that moisture meters are one of those tools you never think you need until you actually do. finally grabbed a $30 one from Home Depot after I saw a post on a home improvement subreddit about hidden water damage behind kitchen cabinets. used it before laying down some new vinyl plank flooring in my kitchen. thought the concrete slab was bone dry but the meter showed it was still damp in a corner near the dishwasher. waited another three days before installing and i'm glad I did. probably would've had bubbling or mold under the flooring if I rushed it.

It's funny how often that happens. People skip the basic checks because they're in a hurry or think they know better, and then six months later they're ripping out flooring. A little patience and a cheap tool can save a ton of headache. It's the same with checking for level before hanging heavy shelves or testing outlets with a simple plug tester before moving in. Most big problems start small and quiet, and people just don't look for them.

Bone dry" is always a lie. Learned that the hard way with a bathroom floor.
