Bought a $50 'drain snake' from a gas station - big mistake

I had a slow drain in my kitchen sink last Saturday and grabbed this cheap plastic drain snake from that Shell station on I-27. First time using it, the little metal hook snapped off inside the pipe after like 2 minutes. Had to call a plumber out Monday morning and he charged me $150 just to pull out that broken piece and the clog. Should I have just rented a real auger from Home Depot instead?

Dang, that's a tough lesson to learn. Honestly though, a real auger from Home Depot is only like 25 bucks to rent for a few hours, way cheaper than a plumber. Ngl, gas station tools are basically toys for stuff like this.

Oh man, that's rough. I once tried to "fix" a toilet with a wire hanger and ended up flooding my bathroom while my wife watched from the doorway. Definitely rent the auger next time, way cheaper than a plumber's "oopsie daisy" fee.

Funny how we always think we can fix it ourselves before making it way worse.
