Cheap orbit sander vs. the expensive one, my garage ceiling story
So I had to sand down about 200 square feet of old drywall mud in my utility room, and I kept going back and forth on buying a $90 brand name orbital sander or just grabbing the $25 hardware store special. I picked the cheap one because I figured it's a one time job, and honestly I can just toss it in the shed and forget it after. That thing vibrated like a paint mixer and threw dust everywhere, I had to tape off the entire doorway and still found grit in my coffee mug two rooms over. It took me three evenings to finish what the nice sander probably wouldve done in one, but the finish came out fine and my arm feels like I wrestled a bull. Now my neighbor wants to borrow it for his fence and I'm wondering if I should just hand it over or point him toward a rental at Home Depot off I-40. Anybody else regret skipping the mid range tool, or am I the only cheapskate here?
