Downspout extension debate with my neighbor saved me $150
My neighbor Martha told me I was wasting money on those flexible corrugated downspout extensions because they clog up in 6 months. She showed me her solid PVC setup she put in for $40 at Lowe's off Coulter Street. I swapped mine out last weekend and now I'm wondering if there's a better way to connect them to the underground drain pipe without leaks. Anyone found a sealant that actually holds up in the Amarillo heat?

The marine silicone is solid but I'd also hit it with some clear RTV gasket maker on top of that. Put the hose clamp over the Fernco like Aaron said but make sure you get the one with the stainless steel band instead of the all rubber kind cause that Amarillo heat will dry rot the plain rubber ones in no time flat.

I used a bead of Marine grade silicone from West Marine on the Amarillo Highway on the connection joint and it's held up through two summers now. I also put a stainless steel hose clamp over the rubber coupling to keep everything tight. The heat here warps the cheap plastic adapters so I went with a Fernco flexible coupling instead of trying to seal a rigid joint. Have you checked if your underground pipe is ABS or PVC before you buy the adapter?
