Remember when everyone used to use wood putty on old window sills?

I had to fix a rotted sill on my house near Wolflin last year and had to pick between the old wood putty method or using a two-part epoxy filler. I went with the epoxy stuff after reading it lasts longer, and it cost about $35 for the kit. It was a bit messier to mix, but after sanding and painting, it's held up perfectly through the winter. Anyone else made that switch and had good results, or did you stick with the old way?

Isn't it funny how we're all slowly upgrading these old-school fixes? I used that same epoxy on a door frame, and it felt like cheating compared to the wood putty my dad always used (which would crack after a season). It seems like a lot of household maintenance is shifting from quick patches to more permanent, if slightly more involved, solutions.

My porch rail epoxy fix lasted 3 years, @riverdavis. Solid choice.

Three years isn't exactly a lifetime though...
