Replacing a single window sash in my North Heights bungalow took me three entire weekends.
Every guide said it was a 4-hour job, but the old frame was totally rotted and nothing was square. Anyone else hit a simple repair that turned into a total project?

Old houses laugh at online guides. You have to budget double the time and add a contingency for rot. Once you start pulling trim, you find a whole new project waiting. It's never just the sash.

Oh man, @drew_hart4, you just described my entire weekend. I went in to fix a sticky window and found a whole nest of carpenter ants (which, you know, is fine). My one-hour project is now a three-day thing, easy.

My 1920s bungalow taught me that sage_moore37, sometimes you just gotta fix the window and let the ants have their corner.
