Spent two full weekends chasing a ceiling stain in my Amarillo house and it was a $6 part
I noticed a brown ring on the ceiling of our back bedroom in early March and figured it was the roof flashing, so I got up on the ladder and smeared a tube of Henry 208 all over the vent boot. Two weekends later the stain was bigger, so I cut a hole in the drywall and spent three evenings running the shower and watching the pipe with a flashlight. It turned out the leak was a cracked plastic nut on the toilet supply line upstairs, dripping maybe one drop every 40 seconds onto the joist. The replacement nut and ferrule cost me about $6 at the True Value on Georgia Street. I patched the drywall, matched the texture, and painted the whole ceiling because I could not get the sheen to blend. Anybody got a trick for matching knockdown texture without buying the spray can, or am I stuck doing the whole room?
