Wasted $150 on a cheap tile cutter from Amazon
I was retiling my kitchen backsplash last month and figured I'd save a few bucks with a $150 tile cutter off Amazon. Big mistake. It couldn't handle the ceramic tile I got from Lowe's in Amarillo. Chipped every single cut. Looked like a beaver chewed on the edges. Lost about four hours fighting with it before I drove down to the tool rental place and got a proper wet saw for $45. That thing cut through everything like butter. Lesson learned - sometimes you just can't cheap out on tools. Has anyone else had bad luck ordering masonry gear online?

Thing is, I bet the problem wasn't even the tile cutter itself. It was the blade. Those cheap Amazon ones come with the flimsiest blade they could find. You swap in a decent continuous rim blade and half the time a $150 cutter will work just fine. I've bought cheap tools online before and a lot of it is fine for light use, but masonry gear specifically needs good blades. The rental place probably just had a blade that was already broken in and properly sharp.

@hayden_craig95 i mean is it really that deep, a blade is a blade tbh.

100% agree, @emmam89, probably just pulled a muscle myself last weekend trying to cut with a dull blade.
