AI art wins a contest but the artist lied about it

I found out that an AI generated piece actually won a fine arts competition at the Colorado State Fair back in 2022. The guy who submitted it used Midjourney and then just touched it up in Photoshop. He didn't tell anyone it was AI until after he won first place and people got furious. Is that fair game or should there be a separate category for AI assisted work?

My buddy got third place at a county fair once with a zucchini shaped like a foot... @shanef34, I think even my garden outdoes me most days.

Same thing happened with photography back in the day. @shanef34, people have been fuming about new tools since forever.

Wait, people actually got furious at the guy? I mean yeah he lied but that's a whole other level of anger over a state fair contest. Guess the art world really cares about where the pixels come from.
