Hot take: I think AI art actually made me a better traditional artist this week

I spent Tuesday and Wednesday generating like 40 images of a fantasy landscape in Midjourney, studying how it handled lighting and composition. Then I sat down with my watercolors and painted my own version based on what I learned from the AI outputs. Is anyone else using AI as a reference tool instead of just letting it do all the work?

40 images from an AI in TWO days is maybe overkill for some painting references.

Yeah but is 40 images really that big of a deal? @amy_craig28 , I get it might look like a lot but if you're painting a whole scene or trying to nail a specific lighting setup you could burn through those pretty quick. Idk, maybe it's just me but two days of generating a handful of references doesn't seem like overkill if you're actually using them for a project. I mean people spend way longer scrolling through Pinterest for the same thing.

honestly I used to think that was a lot too but you kinda changed my mind. if someone's actually working on a project and needs specific lighting or composition references 40 images over two days is nothing, that's like what I'd save off Pinterest in an hour.
