Pro tip: stop letting AI art platforms train on your original work without permission
Last month I found three of my original acrylic paintings from 2021 being used as style references in a Midjourney gallery after I uploaded them to a public portfolio site, and now I watermark everything I post online before it gets scraped - has anyone else had their stuff show up in an AI training set?

Pulled aside a friend who is a digital illustrator at a local con and she told me her entire DeviantArt gallery got scraped into some dataset without her knowing... she only found out when someone messaged her saying their "AI assisted" piece looked suspiciously like her watercolor style... she spent like two years building that portfolio and now she's scared to post anything without a watermark over the entire image... it really sucks because she used to love sharing her process shots and now she just posts finished pieces with huge text overlays.

Watermarks don't actually stop scraping though, they just annoy real viewers.

Ugh, honestly that makes me so mad for her. Ngl, I had almost the exact same thing happen to me last year with my photography portfolio on Flickr. I found out my whole series of desert landscapes got scraped into some AI model and suddenly there were all these "AI generated" desert scenes with my exact color grading and composition. It felt like someone just stole two years of my work without even asking. I used to love posting my raw edits and showing my process, but now I just watermark everything and feel paranoid. It really kills the fun of sharing art when you have to treat every post like it's going to get stolen.
