Rant: That artist at the craft fair who lectured me about AI art

Last Saturday at a local craft fair in Richmond, I was looking at some digital prints and mentioned I'd been experimenting with AI art tools for fun. The artist running the booth, this guy in his 50s, immediately went off on me saying AI art was "stealing" and had "no soul." He wouldn't even let me explain I was just using it for personal projects, not selling anything. I get being protective of traditional art, but shouldn't we at least hear each other out? Has anyone else run into this kind of gatekeeping when you mention AI tools in a creative space?
