That AI art I hated 6 months ago is starting to creep me out in a good way
I used to roll my eyes at every AI generated image I saw on Twitter. It all looked like weird shiny blobs or hands with six fingers. But last week my buddy showed me this piece of a cyberpunk street scene he made with Midjourney v6. The lighting on those wet roads actually looked real, like photo real. It made me stop and think for a solid minute about what's actually possible now vs 2022. I still think training on artists' work without permission is messed up, but the tech itself surprised me. Has anyone else had a piece of AI art actually make you feel something?

Made you feel something" is a pretty low bar, it's still just noise someone typed into a box.

Does a song have to be complicated to be any good? A buddy of mine, he's a mechanic, not a writer at all. But last year his teenage daughter was going through a rough patch, real depressed. He sat down one night and wrote her a letter, just plain stuff like "I remember when you were three and you fell off your bike and I fixed your knee with a Spiderman bandage." No fancy words, just the facts. She pinned it on her wall, and he told me it's the only thing she's kept from that whole year. That simple list of memories hit her harder than any therapist's advice did. So yeah, it might just be noise from a box, but sometimes that specific noise is exactly what someone needs to hear.

I get what you're saying, but honestly sometimes just making someone feel something is enough. I remember when I tried writing poetry years ago and I kept trying to be clever with big words and fancy structures. It never landed. Then one day I just wrote a simple thing about my dog getting old and how I felt about it. My sister cried when she read it. It wasn't great writing by any standard but it connected with her because it came from a real place. So yeah, it might just be noise from a box, but if that noise hits the right note with someone then that's not nothing.
