Chat with my neighbor's kid about AI art made me pause

He's 14 and said 'it's not stealing if the AI learned like a person does.' That hit different coming from someone who's never known a world without it. How do you even start that ethics talk with a generation that sees it as totally normal?

I used to be firmly in the "it's theft" camp until my friend, a graphic designer, showed me her process. She feeds the AI hundreds of her own sketches and paintings to train a personal model. That blurred the line for me, because the output is built entirely from her own learned style.

My cousin trained an AI on his old band's music to make new riffs. It sounds exactly like their stuff from ten years ago. Makes you wonder where the line really is.

My graphic designer friend does the same thing with her sketches. The weird part is when you start feeding it other people's work and calling the style your own. That's when it stops being a tool and starts being a copy machine.

That's the key difference, using your own work to train it.
