My friend told me not to worry about AI bias in hiring tools...
He said it was just a tech problem for the engineers to fix. But then my cousin in Atlanta got passed over for a job she was perfect for, and the company's own report showed their AI system had a 40% lower callback rate for resumes from certain zip codes. It made the whole 'ethics' thing feel real, not just talk. Anyone else see something like this happen close to home?

Look past the hiring algorithms to the training data. In my experience, those old biased records get baked in as fact. The real fix starts with cleaning up our own human history first.

My buddy's loan got denied because old records still listed his old address...

Ugh, my friend got flagged by a resume scanner for a "gap" that was just maternity leave. The system read her old company's outdated records and counted it against her.

Huh, you know I used to just blame the algorithms themselves but you make a solid point about the training data being the real root of the mess. Makes me wonder how much of our past record keeping is just straight up junk.
