My kid asked me why our smart speaker always says 'I'm sorry' when it messes up

It made me realize we're training ourselves to accept apologies from a thing with no feelings, which feels like a weird ethical shortcut. Anyone else get creeped out by how polite we make our error-prone machines?

Honestly, I just find it less annoying when it's polite.

Doesn't it just make us more polite to each other too, or is that wishful thinking?

Agree with kaigibson, it just feels less rude.
