My old boss in Tucson told me in 2019 that AI would never touch hiring, and he said it to my face
Two weeks later HR rolled out a resume screener that dumped my app for a warehouse gig I was overqualified for. Anyone else get told by someone older that this stuff would never stick?
My uncle Larry swore up and down in 2017 that self-checkout lanes at grocery stores were a fad and people would go back to cashiers within a year. He was a store manager at a Kroger in Ohio for like 20 years so he figured he knew better than everyone. Fast forward to now and my local store has maybe two cashiers left and a wall of machines. The part that bugs me is he wasn't even mad about being wrong, he just moved the goalposts and started saying the machines only work because they cut corners on service. Your old boss probably did the same thing after that screener tossed your app. It's weird how confident people get about tech not sticking, like the world owes them things staying the same.
