Walked through an Amazon warehouse last week... creepy how little people were there
I got a tour of a fulfillment center near Phoenix through a friend who works there. They've got these giant robot arms sorting packages now, and I only saw maybe 20 people on the whole floor. The guide said they cut their human staff by 60% since 2020. It was like watching a sci-fi movie but silent and efficient. What happens to all those workers who used to pack boxes? Is anyone tracking how fast this is rolling out across the country?

Wow, 60% is insane. That's not just cutting costs, that's a whole shift in how work gets done. How do you even retrain that many people for something else?

Ask @the_piper if they've actually looked into what retraining looks like on the ground level. Because from what I've seen at my old company, they just throw people into a generic online course and hope for the best. 60% is brutal, and most of those folks are probably getting pushed into customer service or sales, not real new careers. The whole thing feels like they're just shuffling people sideways until they quit on their own.
