Watched my boss run an AI hiring filter and it rejected a nurse with 20 years experience for a typo in the job app

At the HR office last Tuesday, our manager fed 300 resumes through an automated screener and it kicked out the most qualified applicant because she wrote "LPN" instead of "licensed nurse" in one field. Nobody caught it until we manually checked the rejects... is it really saving time if we have to double check everything?

That's a rough situation and I feel for you having to clean up after a system that was supposed to make things easier. Machines scanning for exact words just don't get the real world experience a person brings to the table. Nothing beats an actual human reading an application and understanding what someone is really capable of.

@martin.riley ever try keyword stuffing your resume on purpose to get past those scanners?

Right? "Machines scanning for exact words..." but here's what nobody talks about. Those scanners are also scanning for how you say things, not just what words you use. If you cram a resume with "team player" and "results driven" five times each, the system can actually flag it as spam or lower your score. So you're basically gaming the system into rejecting you faster. The real trick is to naturally weave those keywords into your experience bullets, not just dump them in a skills section. It's like trying to fool a lie detector by staying calm vs just yelling the right answers.
