Google's AI Overview just hallucinated a fake recall on my truck
I asked about a 2015 F-150 transmission issue and it said Ford issued a recall in 2022 for a torque converter flaw - but Ford official site shows no such recall exists for my VIN. Someone could take this as gospel and waste thousands on repairs that aren't covered. Has anyone else caught the AI making up specific safety info like this?

My 2018 Silverado had the same thing happen with a transmission fluid change recommendation. Google told me I needed a special synthetic blend that only a dealer could do, but my local shop showed me the actual spec and it was just regular Dexron. The AI makes up specific part numbers and service intervals all the time now. It's scary because people trust it like its a real mechanic or something. I've started double checking everything Google says against actual forums or the manufacturer directly.

Oh man, that's the thing nobody talks about though... what if the AI is pulling from recalled data that got scrubbed or hidden for liability reasons? Like maybe Ford quietly issued a silent fix campaign through warranty extensions without calling it a formal recall. I've seen that happen with other brands where they avoid the legal paperwork but still cover it under certain conditions.

Double check the NHTSA website directly rather than trusting Google's AI, since they keep the actual official recall database that manufacturers submit to. Your VIN lookup on Ford's site is the only thing that matters here, the AI is just pulling from random forum posts and outdated articles that got mixed together. Always cross reference any safety claims against the government database or a dealership parts department to avoid chasing phantom repairs.
