Hit 1000 AI art pieces in my portfolio last night and it felt weird
I've been messing around with Midjourney and Stable Diffusion for about 18 months now, mostly for fun. Last night I was organizing my folders and realized I had exactly 1000 finished images saved. That number hit me hard because I never thought I'd make that many. But honestly maybe 50 of them are actually good enough to show anyone. Has anyone else looked at their total output and felt like most of it was just noise?

That part about feeling like most of it was just noise really hit me. I've been messing around with AI art for about a year too and I've probably generated way more than a thousand if you count all the duds I deleted. There's something kind of empty about scrolling through all that output and realizing maybe 10% of it is even worth looking at twice. I get what you mean about the weird feeling too, like on one hand it's cool you can make that much stuff but on the other hand it makes you question if any of it really matters. The way you described it as noise is exactly right, it's a lot of quantity without much signal.

I get what you're saying but I actually disagree pretty hard. For me the whole point is the process of sifting through all that junk to find those few cool pieces, that's where the fun is.

That thing @amy_craig28 said about it feeling empty, that really stuck with me. It's like you spend hours tweaking prompts and waiting for renders, and then you just have this pile of images that don't mean anything. The noise part is spot on, but I think the emptiness comes from the fact that we didn't really make any hard choices during the process. With traditional art you have to commit to every brushstroke and that weight makes each piece matter more. Here you just generate and delete and generate again, it's like shouting into a void and only keeping the echoes that sound okay. Eventually you end up with a thousand files but zero real connection to any of them.
