Read a VC blog that said AI will replace junior devs, now I'm questioning my whole career path
I was scrolling through Medium at 2am and saw this post from some Silicon Valley guy saying within 2 years, AI tools like Copilot will handle all the boring coding tasks that juniors get hired for. He basically said companies won't need to pay $70k for someone to write boilerplate when a model can do it in seconds. It hit me hard because I just finished my bootcamp in Austin and landed my first gig as a junior dev 3 months ago. I know AI is changing things, but is it really moving that fast? Has anyone here actually seen their company cut junior roles because of AI, or is this just investor hype to sell more subscriptions?

Have you noticed that all the examples in these AI hype posts are the same boring tasks, but nobody talks about the mess middle managers make when they misinterpret what the AI spits out? The real value of a junior isn't just writing boilerplate, it's catching the nonsense requirements that come down from above before they turn into a broken feature. So yeah, AI might kill the easy jobs, but it'll double the demand for people who can tell a good prompt from a bad one.
