That LinkedIn guru who said AI would replace all floor estimators by 2024
I took his advice and stopped bidding on commercial work for 8 months, now I'm two years behind my competitors who just used AI tools alongside their own judgment.

Right? I lost two big residential contracts last year chasing that same AI pipe dream, total waste of time.

A buddy of mine from trade school fell for the same hype. He ghosted his regular clients for six months to "retrain" into the AI estimator space, ended up wasting his savings on online courses that taught him nothing practical. Now he's back doing manual takeoffs but his old commercial contacts moved on to guys who actually answered their phones. Real tools are helpers, not replacements.

Wait, @lewis.mila, didn't your buddy's online courses claim to teach practical skills, or were they just sales pitches in disguise? Most of those "AI estimator" programs are just repackaged basics you could learn for free on YouTube anyway. He probably would've saved time just calling up a few commercial contacts and asking about their workflow.
