Wrecked whole industries" is right. Buddy of mine was a travel agent for 15 years. When online booking got big, his agency shut down in about 18 months. He ended up selling used cars for a while. Last I heard, he was doing data entry for a logistics company and saying he'd rather be dealing with cranky clients in a strip mall than staring at spreadsheets all day. So yeah, I'm with you on being careful about that "new jobs" line.

Oh, come on, that's a pretty big leap to make. I mean yeah the internet created some jobs, but it also wrecked whole industries like travel agencies and bookstores. I'd be real careful before assuming AI will just magically make everything better.

You ever read that study about how a lot of the "new jobs" from the internet went to people who already had degrees and connections? I saw it a while back and it kinda stuck with me. The people who got left behind in those old industries, they didn't just magically get a coding job.
