The AI scheduler at my plant cost me a 14 hour shift last Tuesday

We switched to an AI system for shift scheduling back in March. Last week it double booked three of us on the same assembly line and left the night shift short. I showed up at 6am and the foreman said the program thought Tuesday was a holiday due to some data mixup. I ended up covering a double shift because nobody else could come in. The supervisor says they are going to add a manual review step, but I still do not trust it. Has anyone else had an AI tool make a simple schedule worse than just writing it on paper?

and honestly, paper never once told me a holiday was on the wrong day. We tried one of those scheduling programs at a site I worked at a few years back and it kept messing up the overtime rotation. What finally helped was having one guy on the crew check the list each Sunday morning and cross out anything that looked off, like a simple 10 minute look over. It was still a pain, but at least we caught the big mistakes before someone drove in for nothing. The manual review step sounds like the right fix, but I would ask to see it in action for a couple weeks before you trust it.
