Update: I tracked every task AI took at our Denver office for 90 days and the popular take is backwards
Every post here says AI steals whole jobs. I bought that too until I counted. From January to March at our Denver office, our team of 14 lost 112 hours a month to email drafts, meeting notes, and status reports, and AI now does about 80 of those hours. But not one person got laid off. What actually happened is HR flipped two open roles into customer calls only, so the work moved instead of vanishing. My manager even said it out loud in a Friday meeting: we fire fewer people now than before AI, since the boring parts stopped driving us nuts. So why does everyone here act like it's all or nothing? What is your team actually doing with the hours it got back?
Honestly this reminds me of when my cousin's restaurant got a fancy new dishwashing machine and everyone swore the dish guys were done for. What actually happened is the owner stopped losing people every other week to burnout, and the two dish guys just moved to prep work and got raises. Same deal here, the work shifts and people aren't thrown out. The all or nothing thing is so loud because the scary version makes better headlines. Steady stuff like your Denver numbers never goes viral. Tbh I wish more teams would just post what they did with the freed up hours instead of arguing about it. So what did your 14 people actually do with those 80 hours?
