My air fryer basically tried to burn my apartment down last Tuesday

Honestly, I was just trying to make some frozen fries from the Safeway near me and set it to 400 for 15 minutes like usual. Tbh, I walked away for maybe 5 minutes and came back to a kitchen full of smoke because the basket got stuck and the fries just kept cooking. Ngl, I had to open every window and my place in Denver still smells like burnt oil. Has anyone else had their basket jam up like that?

Might want to check if you're overloading the basket. I mean, if you put in too many frozen fries at once, the ice crystals can melt and basically glue everything to the bottom. That's how mine got stuck once. Had a similar smoke situation with some nuggets. Now I shake the basket halfway through to make sure nothing's fusing together.

Shaking it halfway through just lets all the heat out though. Honestly, sometimes stuff just sticks and you gotta accept the fused fry block.

Mine jams even when it's half full, so shaking it might not fix the real problem.

The 400 for 15 minutes is my go-to too but yeah, the basket jamming is a known issue with some models. I had the same thing happen with a batch of Trader Joe's hash browns last month. What worked for me was giving the basket a good spray with nonstick cooking spray before loading it up. Also, I started shaking it at the 7 minute mark even if it means losing some heat - better a slightly longer cook time than a smoke-filled kitchen, right?
