My air fryer basically tried to burn my apartment down last Tuesday

I was making some frozen fries, set it to 400 degrees for 15 minutes like usual. About 10 minutes in, I heard a loud pop and saw smoke pouring out the back. I unplugged it right away and opened all the windows. The whole kitchen smelled like burnt plastic for hours. Has anyone else had their air fryer just give out like that, and what did you do next?

Actually, the manual says 425 for crispy fries. 400 might be a bit low.

Check your manual, but 400 degrees sounds too hot for fries.
