My neighbor laughed when I told him I wash my air fryer basket with dish soap
He said the nonstick coating will peel off in a month, but the guy at the appliance shop told me to always hand wash with mild soap and a soft sponge. I've been doing it for 6 months now and the basket still looks brand new. Has anyone else's coating actually held up with regular soap washing?

Oh man, that's such a weird thing for your neighbor to say. I'd bet money that the real issue isn't the soap at all, it's people using scrubby sponges or putting the basket in the dishwasher. I've seen plenty of air fryer baskets get wrecked because someone used a metal scrubber or put it through a high heat dishwasher cycle. The soap itself is fine, your mileage may vary with different brands of nonstick though. The coating chemistry on these things varies a ton between manufacturers, so what holds up for you might not for someone else. Take it from someone who has ruined a few pans in my day, the tool you use to clean matters way more than the soap.

Wait, are you telling me my grandmother's secret metal sponge collection isn't the key to perfect air fryer maintenance? I've been out here attacking my nonstick basket like it owes me money, now I find out it's just user error. Seriously though, I chucked my old one after it started flaking and bought a cheap replacement, but maybe I was the problem all along.
