Rant: Why does every air fryer recipe say 400 degrees for 12 minutes like it's a universal truth?

I was reading through three different air fryer cookbooks last weekend and noticed that almost every single recipe for frozen foods said to cook at 400 degrees for exactly 12 minutes. But when I actually tested this with a basket of frozen french fries from Costco, they came out burnt on the outside and raw in the middle. Am I the only one who thinks these generic time and temp suggestions are just guesswork that never works for real life?

400 degrees works fine for actual fresh homemade fries if you flip them halfway through.

Ha yeah right, because everyone's home fry setup is exactly the same. My oven runs hot and 400 turns them into charcoal briquettes unless I babysit them the whole time. I guess if you're using some fancy convection thing with perfect airflow it works, but most of us are just trying to not set off the smoke detector. Plus who has time to flip individual fries halfway through? I'm lucky if I remember I put them in at all. But hey, you do you with your gourmet flip-a-thon.
