A lead mechanic called me out on using too much torque seal

He said I was slapping it on where it'd get baked by the engine heat, making false readings on the bolts. Switched to a smaller dab on the hex head only after that, saved me chasing ghosts on a PT6 inspection last Tuesday.

@nathan100 Yeah, that's exactly what I found too. I started with a big glob and got fooled twice on hot sections before I wised up, so now I just do a thin swipe on the corner of the head and it's never let me down since.

Gotta disagree a bit here. A tiny dab on the hex head might not be enough to actually see on a hot engine later, especially if it's greasy. I'd rather have a little more torque seal where I can clearly check it after a run versus second-guessing if a bolt moved. As long as you're not slathering it on the threads or where heat distorts it, a bigger visible mark saves time down the line.

Bigger marks don't matter if you can't see them on a greasy engine anyway.
