Felt a bad wheel bearing on a 737 nose gear during a walkaround in Tulsa, here is how it went
Last Tuesday I was doing a turnaround check on a 737 at Tulsa and something felt off when I grabbed the nose wheel at the 12 o'clock spot. The wheel had just a little play in it, maybe a sixteenth of an inch, but you could feel it in your hand. I grabbed my flashlight and looked at the back of the bearing and there was grease seeping past the seal, which is not what you want to see. I flagged it right there instead of signing off, and the lead came over and agreed with me. We pulled the wheel, swapped the bearing, and the jet left 90 minutes late instead of getting grounded somewhere else with a hot wheel. Anyone else ever caught one of these on a quick turn where you almost talked yourself out of it?
