Question about finding a cracked engine mount with a $2 bottle of baby powder

Was chasing a vibration on a 172 for two weeks until an old guy at the shop in Fresno told me to dust the mount with baby powder and run it. The crack showed up as a clean line in about 5 minutes, has anyone else used this trick on other spots?
