Rant: my old shop lead in Wichita said something about torque specs that stuck with me
I was complaining about a kid on the line who kept skipping the second pass on lug nuts, and my old lead Dale just said 'the spec ain't a suggestion, it's a promise you make to the next guy.' That was about 9 months ago at the Wichita hangar and I still hear it every time I grab a wrench. We had 3 comebacks that month from loose fasteners alone, so he wasn't just being dramatic. How do you guys handle it when a newer mech blows off the torque callouts, do you write it up or just pull them aside?
Did you always feel that way about writing people up, or did something change your mind? I used to think pulling them aside was enough, but after seeing a wheel come loose on a truck I'd touched, I stopped being soft about it.
