The torque wrench habit that keeps costing people time on the 737
I work at a hangar in Denver and I swear every other week someone strips a bolt on the flap track because they're using the wrong torque setting for the size. It's always the same thing - they grab the 3/8 drive wrench for a 1/4 inch bolt and wonder why it snaps. I learned this the hard way when I cracked a bracket on a 757 about 5 years ago. Has anyone else noticed this being a problem with newer mechanics coming in?

Are you saying they're just not reading the book at all? Because I've seen the opposite problem, where guys follow the manual but grab whatever wrench is closest without checking the drive size first. I had a kid on my crew last month who torqued a 1/4 inch bolt to 90 inch-pounds from the 3/8 scale because he was in a rush. The manual had the right number, he just didn't match the tool to the fastener.
