TIL air filter changes are way more important than I thought

I had a older Piper Cherokee come in last month that was running rough on the ground. Owner had been chasing fuel pressure issues for weeks. I pulled the air filter and it looked like it had been on there since the 90s. Swapped it out and the engine smoothed right out. Has anyone else seen a dirty filter cause that kind of problem?

Right there with you @paulw53, same thing happened on a 172 last year. Shocking difference.

A new air filter usually just wastes money unless you're actually seeing a problem.

Gotta disagree a bit here @paulw53. A clean filter can make a real difference if you're flying in dusty areas or just want that peace of mind. It's not always about seeing a problem before it shows up.
