Walked away from torque wrenches after my 6 year old one got tested
Everyone raves about annual calibration, but I think we overthink it. I used the same Snap-on torque wrench for 6 years without a single check, sent it in last month out of curiosity, and it came back reading within 2% at 50 and 100 ft-lb. That thing has been dropped, loaned to three apprentices, and left in a tool box through a Denver winter. Meanwhile, the lab guy tried to sell me a new one on the spot and got annoyed when I laughed. Are we really saving any safety margin by spending $150 a year on something that barely drifts? Has anyone else skipped calibration and seen zero issues on their own gear?

Drove mine for 8 years without checking and it was still dead on when I finally did. These tools are way tougher than people give em credit for. The calibration crowd acts like they're handling nuclear material. I get it for final torque on critical stuff, but for everyday work? Waste of money. Keep it in the box and save your cash.
