Warning: My torque wrench failed during an engine mount job
Yesterday, I was torquing down some engine mounts when my wrench clicked way too early. I checked it with another tool and found it was off by a big margin. Had to redo the whole section with a backup, which wasted a bunch of time. Has anyone dealt with tool failure like this? How do you keep your gear from letting you down?

Skip the drama, tools fail sometimes (deal with it).

Used to think checking tools was a waste of time too. Then a bad multimeter reading had me chasing a ghost short for hours on a simple outlet job. Now a quick function check on my main gear is just part of setting up, saves more time than it costs.

Test your torque wrench before any important job. A faulty one can ruin your work and waste your whole afternoon. I had a similar scare last year with a suspension bolt. Now I verify mine with a cheap tester every couple months. It adds five minutes but prevents huge headaches. Never rely on a single tool when the stakes are high.
