Changed my tune on glass break sensors after a job in Reno
I used to skip glass break sensors on almost every job because I thought they were just a money grab and motion detectors caught everything anyway. Then last month a customer on the west side of Reno called me after a break in where somebody smashed her back slider, and the motion sensor never tripped because the guy reached in, grabbed her laptop bag and never fully entered the room. I went back and looked at how simple the install would have been at the trim stage, and it would have taken me maybe 15 minutes per window. Now I'm curious, how many of you are putting them in as a standard part of your bids, or am I still overthinking it?
Did the same exact thing after a slider got popped in a house where the motion was pointed the wrong way. Now I put them on any slider or window near a walkway, cheap and fast at trim stage. It's not overthinking, it's just covering the gap motion can't see.
