Had a DSC panel fail on me mid-install last Tuesday in a new build over in Oakville
I know everyone swears by them for reliability but I've had two go bad this year alone. This one just wouldn't take the programming no matter what I did. Power cycled it three times, checked the wiring twice, even swapped out the backup battery. Nothing. Had to drive all the way back to the shop to grab a Honeywell unit I had in the van just to finish the job on time. The homeowner was watching me the whole time too which made it worse. Has anyone else seen an uptick in these just dying on you out of the box?

Panel number 6162 on a DSC Power Series Neo? I've seen a few of those come through with firmware glitches straight from the distributor lately. Might not be a hardware failure, could just be a corrupted boot loader from sitting on a shelf too long. I usually try a hard factory reset with the jumper before writing them off completely.

OH yeah I had a 6162 do the exact same thing last month and the jumper reset fixed it perfectly.

Hard factory reset with the jumper" is still a gamble if the board itself is cooked from the start. I'd rather swap it for a known good unit than waste time resetting a dud that could die again next week.
