Had the worst Tuesday of my career last week
I got called to a house out in Clovis to fix a system that kept false alarming at 2 AM. Took me an hour to find out the homeowner's new cat was jumping on the motion sensor in the living room. On the same job, I accidentally tripped the panic alarm while testing the keypad and the cops showed up. The homeowner just stood there watching me explain to the officer that no, there was no emergency. Then my ladder slipped on the driveway gravel and I scraped my arm up pretty good. To top it off, the panel was a brand I'd never worked with and the wiring diagram was blurry. Has anyone else had a day where everything that could go wrong did?

Man Ive had almost this exact same week before. Motion sensor false alarms are almost always a pet thing, i usually tell people to try the pet immune sensors if they have cats or dogs that get on furniture. That blurry wiring diagram thing sucks too, i keep a small pocket magnifier in my tool bag now and it saves me all the time on those old panels where the ink is faded or the print is too small. The ladder slipping on gravel is a classic, I started carrying a small rubber mat that I lay down under the feet before I even touch the ladder, cuts way down on that nonsense. At least you got a funny story out of it, the homeowner probably still brings that up when you run into them.

Rubber mat is a game changer, I read somewhere that a lot of ladder accidents happen just because people skip that step. I've started keeping one of those anti fatigue mats from the hardware store in my van for the same reason. Also heard a tip about using a cheap dollar store reading glass for those tiny print diagrams, works way better than trying to squint. The pet immune sensors are solid advice too, I had a buddy who kept getting false alarms from his cat jumping on the counter at night until he swapped those out.
