Had to pick between a wired panel and a wireless one for a 1920s brick house

Went with wired because the owner wanted no visible sensors, and I spent 3 extra hours drilling through mortar joints to hide the cables, anyone else run into this with old construction?

Drilled through a lot of old brick myself and mortar joints crumble different once they're past 50 years old, did you have any trouble with the bits wandering off center? Because I've found a sharp masonry bit makes all the difference when you're trying to keep those holes tight and clean.

Man I am the king of oval holes, I should put them on a resume or something. @gavin365 hit the nail on the head about those old bricks being sneaky hard in one spot and crumbly in the next, makes my cheap bits look like they're dancing around. Sharp bits are the only thing that keeps me from just drilling a giant oval and calling it a day.

Ngl, I swear some of those old bricks are harder than the bits you're using. Did you find the mortar joints were softer in some spots and harder in others depending on which part of the wall you were drilling? Ran into that last month on a 1910 row house, and my bit kept pulling sideways every time I hit a harder patch, ended up with a couple holes that looked more like ovals.
