Just had a panel fail mid-install yesterday

I was putting in a new Vista 20p at a house in Greenville and right as I was connecting the keypad, the board started smoking. Pulled power fast but it fried the transformer and the keypad bus. Turned out the panel had a bad capacitor from the distributor. They swapped it out today but now I'm out a full day's labor. Anyone else run into dud panels right out of the box?

Man that sucks bad. Vista panels are usually pretty solid too so getting a dud like that is rough luck. Bad capacitors seem to be more common lately with all the supply chain nonsense still going on. You'd think distributors would check that stuff before sending it out though. At least they swapped it out for you but yeah the lost labor stings.

Did they test the replacement before handing it over?

That distributor probably knew they had a bad batch and was just waiting to unload them on someone. Classic move to dump the duds on a Friday install so you're stuck dealing with it over the weekend. Seen it happen way too many times.
