Swapped a 20-year-old panel for a new one in Boise and the keypad kept beeping
Turns out the old zone wiring had a ground fault that the new board was too sensitive to ignore, so I spent 2 hours chasing a problem the old system just hid. Has anyone else had a new panel expose bad wiring that the old one never complained about?
Ran into the same thing on a swap last year, old panel never blinked but the new one flagged a shorted zone wire right away. What worked for me was yanking the zone off the terminal and testing resistance to ground, found the bad wire in like 10 minutes instead of guessing. Old boards just had a higher tolerance for that stuff so the fault sat there for years unnoticed.
