TIL battery backup placement matters way more than the manual says

Put a fresh backup battery inside a hot attic unit last July and it swelled up like a balloon within 3 weeks, so I switched to mounting it in the cool hallway closet with a longer harness. The customer called me out for the mess at first, but after it passed the 4 month mark with normal voltage I know it was worth it. Anyone else run into heat killing their backup cells, or do you always keep them out of the equipment room?
