Watched a 20 year old panel get swapped for a 2 hour install and the zone map went from pencil scribbles to a clean printout
Did a full swap in Boise last week on a house with a 20 year old panel where the old zone list was written in pencil on the inside of the door, half the labels smeared and unreadable. New system tagged every zone, labeled each sensor on the app, and the homeowner could see the whole layout on her phone in 2 hours. The old setup had 14 zones and not one of them matched the paper list. Anybody else doing zone maps on the first visit now instead of waiting until the panel dies?
Man, I gotta push back on making zone maps a first visit thing every time. Half the houses I walk into still have panels with plenty of life left, and spending a couple hours mapping zones on a system nobody asked me to touch yet is time I'm not getting paid for. Wait till the panel is actually dying or the homeowner is fed up with the scribbles, then do the clean map as part of the job.
