Wire nuts vs crimp connectors on 22 gauge zone wire, and I will die on this hill
Spent 6 hours chasing a random zone fault on a 16 zone panel in Cheyenne and it turned out to be two wire nuts that looked tight but had 40 ohms across them, so now I crimp and heat shrink every single splice no matter how small the job, and honestly the $18 for a decent ratcheting crimper paid for itself on that one callback alone.
Had a similar thing with a doorbell transformer once, the splice in the attic looked fine but kept dropping voltage whenever it got humid up there. Turned out the copper had that green crusty stuff creeping under the insulation and the nut was just sitting on top of it. Cleaned it up and soldered that joint and it never came back. Funny how the obvious stuff hides in plain sight for hours.
