I finally listened to my plumber about my Calgary home's sump pump

He told me to replace the battery backup every 3 years, and when our power went out for 12 hours last week during that heavy rain, it actually worked perfectly and saved our basement from flooding.

That's solid advice about changing the battery. Our old one gave out after maybe four years, right when we had a quick storm. Water got about an inch deep before the power came back on. Now I just set a calendar reminder and swap it out like clockwork. It feels like cheap insurance after mopping up that mess.

What brand of battery backup did you go with? I've heard some fail way before the 3-year mark. Good to know yours held up under real pressure.

Mine's still on its original battery after five years, lol.

Oh man, that's the kind of close call that makes you really pay attention. I mean, it's wild how many people just let that battery sit until something bad happens, right? So here's my question - what made you actually listen to your plumber instead of just nodding and forgetting like most of us do? Was it a past scare, or did he just have a way of explaining it that really stuck with you? I'm asking because I've heard the same advice maybe three times from different people but keep putting it off, and I'm wondering what finally made it click for you.
