My sump pump failed during the big rain last week in Calgary

I was in my basement watching the game when I heard a weird gurgle. Water started seeping in from the corner near the drain tile, and within ten minutes there was an inch of water on the floor. I had to run to Home Depot, grab a new Wayne pump, and install it myself while trying to bail water with a bucket. Has anyone else had a pump die at the worst possible time, and what brand did you switch to?
